We’ve completed over 7,000 exterior remodeling projects in McHenry County since we opened our doors in 2005. We’re women-led, family-owned, and we hold six manufacturer certifications — more than any other exterior remodeling contractor in the county.

Started in 1974.

the same phone.

1974: The trade begins.

Terry founded Rainyday after Vietnam. Rhett grew up watching his dad climb ladders and read job plans before he could ride a bike. By 14 he was hauling materials. By 22 he was running crews. The trade has been in the Wilborn family for 52 years.

2005: Innovative Home Concepts opens.

Rhett Wilborn launched IHC out of a small Crystal Lake office on Route 176. Same address. Same phone number. Two principles from day one: do the job right the only way, and your word is the most important thing you have.

Today: Women-led, family-run.

Courtney Wander runs daily operations as General Manager. Skyler Wilborn (Rhett’s son) is third generation in the trade. Ryleigh Morton (Courtney’s daughter) handles project coordination. Three generations under one roof.

No. 03 / Meet the Founder

Rhett Wilborn,
in his own story.

Rhett didn’t just choose construction — he was born into it. At age three, his father launched Rainyday Gutter Company from scratch while working as a baggage handler at O’Hare Airport, instilling an entrepreneurial spirit and blue-collar work ethic that would define Rhett’s entire career.

Nearly four decades later, that foundation has grown into Innovative Home Concepts — McHenry County’s most trusted name in exterior remodeling. From working as a teenage laborer to leading a family enterprise that’s served over 5,000 homeowners, Rhett has built his reputation on two unwavering principles learned from his father: do the job right the only way, and your word is the most important thing you have.

He holds an Illinois public adjuster license and personally oversees the storm damage division. When he’s not on a roof or fighting an insurance company, you’ll find him at Foxhole Pizza and Pub in McHenry — a family business he co-owns with Courtney, Skyler, and Ryleigh — at a McHenry County chamber event, or coaching youth sports.

Our sister company — IHC Public Adjusters, a separately licensed Illinois public adjusting firm — has been handling storm damage insurance claims since 2006. Most contractors hand you an estimate and wish you luck with your insurance company. Our team files the claim, meets the adjuster, and fights for full coverage.

We use the same Xactimate software the insurance companies use, so when they say a line item isn’t covered, we know exactly why — and how to push back. Financial relationship between IHC and IHC Public Adjusters is disclosed in writing per 215 ILCS 5/1575.

Pearl Harbor. Two Purple Hearts.

Rhett’s grandfather, Beverly Clyde Wilborn — everyone called him Clyde — was a 20-year-old U.S. Navy sailor aboard USS Maryland when the attack on Pearl Harbor began on December 7, 1941. He survived the attack, served the Pacific, and came home with two Purple Hearts. 75 years later, at age 95, he made his first return to Pearl Harbor — NBC Nightly News covered it, sitting him down at USS Missouri with the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, who told him: “You woke up the morning of December 7th, just like everyday sailors. But you retired that night as heroes.”

Vietnam. Then Rainyday Gutters.

Rhett’s father, Terry Wilborn, served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. When he came home, he started Rainyday Seamless Aluminum Gutter Company in 1974. He ran gutters by day and worked nights at O’Hare to make it work. That’s where the IHC work ethic comes from — not a book, not a seminar, an actual Vietnam veteran who built a trade from nothing.

2025: We gave a vet a roof.

In 2025, IHC partnered with Operation Roof Angel and 30 Days for 30 Vets to donate a brand-new roof to a veteran in need right here in McHenry. Not a discount. Not a coupon. A roof. We’d like to make it an every-year thing — that part’s still being worked out. The 2025 install is proof the family’s service record doesn’t end with the men in the photos above.
