Retail Roofing & Storm Damage — One Contractor, Both Done Right

IHC does two kinds of roofing work, and the distinction matters. Retail roofing is when you decide it’s time for a new roof — maybe the shingles are curling, the granules are washing into your gutters, or you just want something better before you sell. Storm damage roofing is when Mother Nature makes the decision for you and your insurance company is picking up the tab.
We handle both. For retail work, we install CertainTeed, F-Wave synthetic, and Brava composite roofing — not just the cheapest three-tab shingle from the supply house. For storm damage, our sister company IHC Public Adjusters (a separately licensed Illinois public adjusting firm) can file your claim, meet your insurance adjuster on-site, and fight for the full repair scope. Most roofers can’t offer that. We’ve been doing it since 2006.
McHenry County’s climate is hard on roofs. Sixty thunderstorms a year. Hail. Ice dams from 35+ inches of annual snowfall. Temperature swings that take your roof from 15°F in January to 160°F on the surface in July. If your roof was installed in the early 2000s, it’s lived through over a thousand freeze-thaw cycles. That’s a full lifetime for architectural shingles — and most homeowners don’t know it until a leak shows up in the attic.
Roof Replacement, Repair & Storm Damage
Full Roof Replacement
Complete tear-off and replacement. We strip the old roof down to the deck, inspect the sheathing for rot or water damage, install ice and water shield per Crystal Lake code, and lay your new roofing system. CertainTeed Landmark shingles are our standard recommendation — but we install premium options too.

Storm Damage Repair
Hail damage, wind-lifted shingles, fallen tree branches, ice dam damage. Our sister company IHC Public Adjusters can handle the insurance claim from filing to final payment. We repair roofing, siding, gutters, windows, trim — everything the storm hit. One contractor, one claim.
InnoMAXX Performance System
Our proprietary roofing system. Premium materials, premium installation procedures, and an extended warranty that goes well beyond what standard installations carry — lifetime or 50-year coverage depending on the product. This is for homeowners who want the last roof they’ll ever need.
Commercial Roofing
Flat roof systems, low-slope applications, elastomeric coatings, and TPO membranes for commercial properties. We serve businesses along Randall Road, Route 14, and the Route 31 corridor in McHenry County.
Roof Repair
Not every problem needs a full replacement. Leaks around vent pipes, damaged flashing, missing shingles from a wind event — these are targeted repairs that protect your home until it’s time for a full roof. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is enough or if you’re throwing money at a roof that needs replacing.
Premium Roofing Materials
F-Wave synthetic shingles: Look like slate, weigh like asphalt, resist hail up to 2 inches. Brava composite: Lightweight alternative to tile and shake. Both outlast traditional shingles by decades and carry Class 4 impact ratings — the highest available.

Note on insurance discounts: Class 4 impact-rated roofing (F-Wave, Brava) qualifies for premium reductions with many Illinois insurance carriers. Why We’re Not Just Another McHenry County Roofer

CertainTeed ShingleMaster
CertainTeed reserves ShingleMaster status for contractors who demonstrate installation excellence. It unlocks their best warranty coverage — SureStart Plus — which covers both materials and labor. A standard installer can’t offer that.
IHC Public Adjusters — Licensed Sister Company
Storm damage is our second language. IHC Public Adjusters, our separately licensed IL public adjusting firm, can file your claim, write the scope in Xactimate, meet the insurance adjuster on-site, and negotiate for full coverage. They’ve been doing this since 2006. The insurance company’s adjuster works for them. IHC PA works for you.
Premium Material Options
F-Wave and Brava aren’t materials you find at every roofing company. Most contractors install one brand of architectural shingle and call it a day. We offer Class 4 impact-rated options that can lower your insurance premiums and outlast standard shingles by 20+ years.
Full Exterior Scope
A roof doesn’t exist in isolation. If your soffit is rotting, your gutters are failing, or your flashing transitions to siding are compromised — we handle all of it. One contractor, one project, one warranty. No finger-pointing between trades.
InnoMAXX System
Our proprietary roofing approach combines premium materials with enhanced installation procedures and extended warranty coverage. Think of it as the difference between a standard install and the install we’d do on our own homes. Lifetime or 50-year warranty.
21 Years, Same Location
We opened on Route 176 in Crystal Lake in 2005. Same office, same phone number, same family. When you need warranty service in 15 years, we’ll still be here. Can the fly-by-night crew with out-of-state plates say that?

Our Roofing Process
Inspection & Assessment
We walk your roof, inspect the attic for ventilation and moisture issues, check for soft spots in the decking, and photograph everything. You get an honest assessment — replace, repair, or wait.
Written Estimate
Itemized quote with material specs, labor, ice and water shield, ventilation, flashing, drip edge, and cleanup. We explain what’s included and why. No “per square” vague pricing.
Professional Installation
Full tear-off to the deck. Sheathing repairs as needed. Ice and water shield in valleys and eaves (Crystal Lake code requires self-adhering membrane where ice dam history exists). New underlayment, flashing, and your chosen roofing material installed to manufacturer specifications.
Final Walkthrough & Warranty
We inspect the finished roof from the ground and from above. You get warranty documentation for both materials and labor. Our magnetic sweeper goes over the yard and driveway to collect any stray nails. Your landscaping should look the same as when we started.
Roofing FAQs
How much does a roof replacement cost in Crystal Lake, IL?
A full roof replacement in the Crystal Lake area typically costs $12,000 to $22,000 for CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles on an average-sized home. Premium options like F-Wave synthetic ($18,000–$32,000) or Brava composite ($20,000–$38,000) cost more upfront but last 50+ years. IHC provides free itemized estimates.
How do I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?
If your roof is under 15 years old and the damage is localized (a few missing shingles, a leak around one vent pipe), repair is usually the right call. If the roof is 20+ years old, showing widespread granule loss, or has multiple leak points, replacement is more cost-effective than repeated repairs. We inspect and give you an honest recommendation.
What roofing materials work best in McHenry County’s climate?
CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles handle Illinois weather well and offer the best value. For hail-prone areas, F-Wave synthetic shingles carry a Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and may qualify for insurance premium discounts. Brava composite is ideal for homeowners who want the look of slate or tile without the weight.
Will a Class 4 impact-rated roof lower my insurance premiums?
Many Illinois insurance carriers offer premium discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofing materials like F-Wave and Brava. The discount varies by carrier but can be significant — especially after the recent hail seasons in McHenry County. Ask your insurance agent about available discounts before choosing your roofing material.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most residential roof replacements take 2 to 5 days depending on the size of the home, material type, and weather conditions. A standard 2,000 square foot home with architectural shingles typically takes 2 to 3 days. Complex roof lines, premium materials, or extensive deck repairs can extend the timeline.
Do you help with insurance claims for roof damage?
Yes. Our sister company, IHC Public Adjusters, is a separately licensed Illinois public adjusting firm that handles the entire insurance claim process — filing, documentation, on-site meetings with the insurance adjuster, negotiation, and supplemental claims. They’ve been processing storm damage claims in McHenry County since 2006.
