Your Chance to Make a Claim for Hail in Mchenry County is Ending Soon
If you live in Mchenry, Crystal Lake, Johnsburg, Hebron, Capron, Union, Spring Grove or if you live in Mchenry county and you think you have damage and you haven’t had your home inspected for hail damage you need to do it now! Your time is running out.
Last April a significant hail storm hit our area and damaged thousands of homes. Many homes have already been repaired but there are still a significant number of homes that have not yet been fixed. Maybe one of those homes is yours? Or maybe you have damage but your insurance company denied coverage or only paid for part of the damaged portions of your home? Half a roof, half of the siding. We can help you. But you have to hurry. There is a statue of limitation built into all insurance policies that states you only have one year from the hail storm to make a claim or you lose your right to do so forever. With some insurance companies you actually have to have the repairs done within the year or they will only pay for a portion of the work which can cost you thousands of dollars. The clock is ticking, you only have a short time to take action!
If your home is damaged and you have homeowner’s insurance, they are required to indemnify you. What this means is make you whole. Your insurance policy is a contract between you, the homeowner, and your insurance carrier. In this contract, you agreed to pay premiums every month, which you did, and they agreed to indemnify you in the event of a loss. That is, make you whole if your property is damaged by an event that is covered by the policy. Hail and wind damage is an act of nature and is covered under your homeowner’s policy
.
Some homeowners think that if they can’t see damage it must not be there. The truth is there are two types of hail storms. Storms that produce huge hail balls that break out windows, make large dents in cars, and destroy roofs, siding, and gutters. Then there are storms that produce smaller hail. Hail where the damage isn’t as obvious. It only makes small dings on cars. It only makes small dings on your aluminum siding and gutters. It only makes small indents in your roof shingles.
These damages may not be as obvious but they can cost you none the less. In the case of your roof. Roof shingles are made of primarily of tar. Tar deteriorates over time when exposed to sunlight, specifically to the UV rays that come from the sun. That is why your shingles are covered with small stone granules. These granules block the suns damaging effect on the tar portion of your shingle. Hail, even small hail, creates dents in the tar which displaces these small granules. With no granules to protect it, the tar is exposed to sunlight and deteriorates over time… causing your roof to fail. That is why insurance companies cover hail damage, even damage caused by small hail stones, as part of their standard policies. Because they know over time the roof will fail and cause bigger problems like water and structural damage and potentially mold and sickness.
Even small dents to the metal parts of your home, siding, gutters, trim which you may feel are insignificant, can cost you. When it is time to sell your home the buyer is more than likely going to hire a home inspector. Home inspectors are trained to look for hail damage. If they find it on your home, they will tell the buyer who you know in turn will be looking for compensation in the form of a discount on the price of your home. Taking thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars out of your pocket! Again this is why insurance companies cover even small dents to metal on your cars and home. If the value of the item insured is lowered by the damage, they must make you whole again.
Now you may have noticed your neighbors getting new roofs and siding. People at work are talking about how they got their homes redone due to storm damage, maybe some of your friends and family have even done it. Isn’t it time you did it too??
Take advantage of this gift from Mother Nature and make your insurance company hold up their end of the bargain. You pay your premiums regliously and on time, if your home is damaged it needs to be fixed. And don’t worry about your insurance premiums going up because they already are. Premiums are determined based on geographic areas. If there are a lot of claims in your area, your premiums go up. Look around, do you see a lot of new roofs?
