Innovative has been helping homeowners with their storm damage claim for over 10 years now. Over the years we have learned some pretty valuable lessons about the hail damage / insurance restoration business. Here are 3 things we have learned and that we think you should know:
- You don’t have to get 3 estimates when you make an insurance claim. I guess it was the BBB that started the old 3 estimates thing. The philosophy is that you get 3 competing bids and pick the price in the middle. The problem… insurance companies set their own prices. Yes, it is price fixing. Yet, somehow insurance companies get away with it. But because they do dictate pricing, it makes no sense to get bids. If you get a price that is lower than the insurance pricing, you are only saving them money, and possibly sacrificing quality. If you get a higher price, they will only pay what they are going to pay, so the price difference will be on you. The best thing to do is find a quality, experienced restoration company that you feel comfortable with. Have them work with your insurance company to get repairs and replacements done. It is easier on you, less stressful, and you pricing isn’t an issue. All you owe is your deductible.
- Your local roofer knows nothing about hail damage or the insurance restoration process. We have seen it hundreds of times. A homeowner calls the local roofing company to look at their roof. The roofer tells them they see no damage. Meanwhile the rest of the neighborhood is getting new roofs! Or worse yet, the local roofer meets the insurance adjuster. Adjuster, “There is no damage”. Roofer, “Ahhh, OK”. And you, the homeowner, loses. Insurance restoration work is completely different than regular construction. There are certain ways things need to be done, from how you file your claim to how you submit your final invoices. It is in your best interest to work with a professional restoration company. If that company is local like Innovative Home Concepts, even better.
- When your storm damage claim is denied at your initial adjustment it is not the end of your rightful claim. We help literally hundreds of Chicagoland homeowners whose initial claim were denied get their projects done each and every year. Your insurance company doesn’t want to pay for your claim. They are huge corporations with investors who want the company to make money so they can collect their dividends. Our years of experience has taught us that a denied claim is not the end of the road. There are processes, procedures, and language that you can use to get your insurance company to reevaluate your situation. We can help teach you the process.
