“I just wanted to take some time to thank you for all your hard work. I am one of those skeptics who was afraid of being taken by a scam. But I was desperate and need to stop a leaking roof. your timing was impeccable. You gave me a new roof and siding all for the price of my deductible. I really thought that this was one of those ‘to good to be true. I am so glad that I received the call from your company. I think that I was nervous about the whole deal up until the insurance company showed. But he knew you who you were and said you did great work. It was a load off my mind. Before I knew it the workers were here. They did a fantastic job. I feel like I got a new house without the hassle of moving! I thank you so much and look forward to doing more work with you in the near future with more on my hunny-do list.
C. Piwowar, Marengo, IL
“When I received a letter from your company stating that their had been some severe storm damage in our area, I was skeptical. I called my insurance company and explained that I had received the letter and thought I was probably dealing with an “ambulance chaser” but wondered if I should follow-up with it because I was seeing dumpsters in many driveways in my area and much roof and siding work being done. My Insurance company told me to go ahead and have Innovative check for damage. Finding that there indeed was damage, Innovative worked with my insurance company to get my roof replaced. Things worked out exactly the way you told me it would. I had a lot of apprehension because it was at the end of the construction season and I knew weather could be a factor. I also wondered if Innovative was a reputable company to do business with. My friend is a general contractor and told me he would keep an eye on the job. He told me afterward that he was impressed with the professionalism and quality of work. I’m very pleased with how this all worked out and wouldn’t hesitate to do business with Innovative Home Concepts again.”

You have two obligation to our insurance company when it comes to them covering damage to your home.
- You must mitigate the damage so further damage is prevented. For example, a tree hits your roof and leaves a hole, you need to tarp the roof so water doesn’t get into the whole and cause interior water damage to your home.
- You need to report the damage as soon as you discover it. And the sooner the better. Most insurance companies have a statue of limitation that states the damage must be reported within 12 months of the event. Most companies in Illinois operate by this rule.
Not only are there rules in place to facilitate timely reporting of damage to your home, it is actually a big advantage to you.
When a storm hits and the damage is new and fresh, insurance companies are ready and willing to cover the loses. Month or even years after the fact, the insurance company is thinking… is this real damage? Why didn’t you report it sooner?
It becomes a little bit of an uphill battle. It is always best to report/file your claim as soon as possible. This way you get your home restored in a timely manner and it eliminates some obstacles when dealing with your insurance company.
AVOID Out of State Contractors
These are contractors that travel from storm to storm. They care very little about quality, they just want to get the job done and move on.And if you have a problem with their work you most likely won’t find them to make repairs or warranty their work.
AVOID Start up Companies
Little local contractors spring up all the time.Very few of them know how to run a successful business and most will be gone in less than 3 years.Make sure when you do your research that the company is at least 5 years old.
AVOID Companies that are vague about their insurances and licenses or won’t provide proof.
Always get a certificate of insurance from any contractor.Make sure they have liability insurance and worker’s compensation insurance to fully protect yourself and your property.Make sure the contractor has a valid license for the work they will be doing. In Illinois, a roofing license is required for roof work.
AVOID Door to Door Sales people
These high pressure sales people use intimidation and scare tactics to bully you into working with them.
AVOID contractors who offer to waive your deductible or offer to do work for less than what the insurance company is willing to pay.
Waiving deductibles and doing work for less than your insurance estimate seems like a great way to pocket some money but is in fact insurance fraud and carries serious repercussions. If found guilty of insurance fraud you may face fines, jail time, and at the very least you’ll be blacked listed for insurance coverage.
AVOID Roofing Companies with no Experience in Insurance Claim Processes
Many roofing companies see insurance work as easy money but have no experience in working with insurance companies. Many times having these companies represent you can be worse than doing it yourself. It is best to have companies with proven experience in claims
