Turning an Old Box Store Door into a Beautiful New Entrance
The Entry Door Before Innovative Home Concepts
This house in Crystal Lake had a Steel Front door with flanking side lites that looked to have been purchased from a box store. The home owners had just bought the house and didn’t know exactly how old the door was but guessed it probably was only 5 or 6 years old.

The door was functioning fine but really looked horrendeous. Many people don’t realize how important their front door is to the exterior curb appeal and the first impression visitors have of your home. Likewise an old, outdated, dark entry door definitely has a negative effect on the appeal of the interior of your home as well.

In this particular case, the door and sidelights were what we call half lites, meaning that half the door was glass and the other half was steel.
The low quality glass units were comprised of patterned glass set in brass.
Unattractive glass design and dirty, degrading plastic around glass units
The plastic moldings that held the glass in place were yellowed and starting to split and deteriorate. The hardware, also brass, was functional but was starting to tarnish and was obviously low grade. The wood lining of the frame had mildow forming on it and was in need of painting. The most obvious issue with this door unit was the fact that it was starting to rust at the bottom of both the door slab and the two side lites.

The Entry Door After Innovative Home Concepts
These home owners became our clients when they hired us to furnish and install their new Entry Door System. They chose a Steel Entrance Door System from Armstrong.
We love Armstrong doors because of the quality of the products that they produce. Homeowners love Armstrong too because of little features like extra reinforcement, high energy efficiency, and loads of options, styles, and designs.
The door we installed is an ornate full glass steel entry door. The glass unit is comprised of obscure stained glass set in brushed nickel for a very updated and modern look. To match the decor on the inside and outside of the home, prefinished white was chosen for both the exterior and the interior of the door.

This front door installation took just a few hours but made a huge difference! The front of the house looks cleaner, updated, and much more attractive. And because of the full glass in the door more light is now getting into the home and the entrance way looks much brighter and actually appears larger from the inside.
The exterior was capped in white aluminum for a maintenence free exterior and adds to the clean look and attractive curb appeal.
The hardware chosen was the standard quik lock set, that Armstrong doors provides with every unit, upgraded to a brushed nickel finish to match the glass unit.
